Start a timer from Trello cards
Which pages are recognised
Open a card on trello.com — on its own page or over its board — and the Keepr extension shows an “On this page” card above the timer. A card opened over a board counts too, because Trello then changes the address to the card's own, trello.com/c/….
Boards, lists, search, your Trello home and settings pages are not recognised. Trello has no self-hosted edition, so only trello.com is, and only over HTTPS.
What the card fills in
Press “Use” on the card. The timer description becomes the card's short link and name, for example “aB3dE5fG Fix the login”: the short link is the eight characters after /c/ in the card's address, and Trello has no other short key.
Trello's tab title does not reliably name the card, so Keepr asks trello.com for that one card's name from within the page, with the session you are already signed in with, and falls back to the heading on the card. If neither works, the description is the short link alone, and you can type the rest.
If a Keepr task for that card already exists, the card says so and Use fills its project and task too. Otherwise the card names the project the new task would go into, and you can change it before pressing “Start timer”.
How the task is matched or created
Keepr stores the short link on the task together with the card's address, trello.com/c/ and the short link — exactly what the Trello integration stores. A card the integration has already turned into a task is therefore found, and the timer starts on that task rather than a new one. To link a task by hand, enter the short link as its External ID; it is case-sensitive, as in the address.
A card's address names no board, so all of Trello counts as one source. With no matching task, Keepr picks the project that already holds most tasks from Trello, then the one you last started a Trello card in from this browser. No project is matched by name.
The task itself is created only when you press “Start timer”, named after the card, so opening the card and walking away leaves nothing behind. Starting on the same card next week reuses that task.
What you need
The extension connects with a personal API token, which is part of the Ultimate plan. Give it the timers and projects scopes; creating a task from a card also needs the projects write scope and the right to manage the chosen project. Without either, the timer still starts, on the description alone.
In the pinned side panel, Keepr follows the card you have open once you let it read tab addresses. If you prefer not to, allow just trello.com when the panel offers it.
